The week of March 5 is testing week at EHS. Our 11th grade students will be taking the Michigan Merit Exam on March 6-8. They take the American College Test (ACT) on Tuesday, March 6; the ACT WorkKeys exam on March 7 and three short Michigan tests on March 8. It is very important for our 11th graders to attend these three days of testing. We start serving breakfast for our 11th graders in our commons at 7:15 a.m. on March 6-8 and they will move to their testing rooms at approximately 8:00 a.m. each day.
To start better preparing our younger students for the ACT, we will be giving the EXPLORE (http://www.actstudent.org/explore) test to our 8th graders and the PLAN (http://www.actstudent.org/plan) test to our 9th and 10th graders on Tuesday, March 6. The EXPLORE and PLAN test are mini-versions of the ACT that tell us how prepared a student is for the full ACT. These tests help school staff by providing us with a detailed list of content areas our students need more instruction in. It helps our students because the ACT corporation provides our students and their parents with a detailed report on the student's score and advice on how to improve in each content area. Watch for these reports to be mailed home in late April.

Music Programs at EHS
I am always surprised at how much I enjoy watching the Grammy's each year. The variety of acts and combination of artists they put together always amaze me. As I sit hear tonight I am struck by how fortunate my children are to go to the Escanaba High School and be exposed to the variety of musical opportunities our students enjoy. One of my sons enjoyed playing the viola in our Orchestra program. My other son currently plays the trumpet and looks forward to joining the vocal music program next year with sights on trying out for the fall musical. My children have had a better high school experience due to their exposure to the fine arts. I know hundreds of other parents in Escanaba would say the same thing about their children. For that I want to thank our talented fine arts instructors; John Beck, Bruce Cassell, Janet MacKenzie, Laura Robinson and Lynn Soderberg. They all have a passion for the arts and put in many long days working with our students. I thank them for a job well done.

EHS Text Messaging Service
The new and improved EHS text messaging service is ready to go. We use this service to notify students and their parents about upcoming events and school closures. There will be separate lists of announcements for students and parents. If you would like to join the parent's text messaging list, send a text message with the word eskymos to 69302. If you would like to join the student's text messaging list, send a text message with the word esky to 69302. If you are successful, you will receive two text messages from our texting service within a couple minutes of sending your registration text. We promise not to send you too many texts but we will use this service for school closures and other important events at EHS. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
